© Purpose

Rotating agitators use either a mechanical seal or a magnetic coupling. Mechanical seals are subjected to catastrophic failure, are difficult to keep sterile and are hard to clean. Typical vessel-mounted magnetic couplings are also hard to clean. Additionally are baffles required to avoid Vortex-formation which are generating shear-force, which has to be avoid with use of sensitive products.

© Solution

Vibrating mixers are driven by vibrating motor above the vessel. The vibrating shaft transmits its force to a perforated mixing plate fixed at the shaft end. As the plate vibrates up and down, liquid jets are formed by the conical perforations in the mixing plate. The result is a gentle and effective mixing (Bernoulli effect). The vibrating shaft is perfectly sealed with a simple teflon-silicone membrane. Vibrating mixers are suitable for being used under pressure or vacuum or at atmospheric pressure for:

Mixing of low viscosity fluids

Suspension of solids liquids

Emulsification of immiscible liquids
New Electronic Instrumentation and Control: The new developed, unique instrumentation and controls for vibrating mixers. See Rutten Vibrocontrol. The Vibrocontrol measures the amplitude of vibration form 0.1...2.5 mm and the measurement can be recorded. The Vibrocontrol is used to set the vibrating mixer at the desired vibration amplitude. This instrumentation provides the measurement, alarms, and control required for process validation.

Materials: Product-side (metals): DIN 1.4435 (316L)

Diaphragm: PTFE, FDA-approved.
Other parts: DIN 1.4301 (304) for non-process-side components, all stainless steel vibrator housing

Surfaces: Product-side roughness: stainless-steel parts not exceeding Ra 0.25 μm  (electro polished). Other surfaces polished

Temperature range: For the vibrating plate and sealing unit: - 20...+150° C.
For the electromagnetic vibrator: + 5...+40°C

Pressure range: -1...+5 bar (high-pressure sealing), -1...+2 bar (low-pressure sealing)
